Integrate Excel Files with Edilitics
Integrate Excel files with Edilitics for seamless data workflows. Follow this guide to securely configure and manage your Excel file integrations.
Microsoft Excel is a versatile spreadsheet application widely used for organizing, analyzing, and visualizing data. Its robust functionalities, including formula-based calculations and customizable charts, make it an essential tool for tasks such as financial modeling, budgeting, and data analysis.
Within Edilitics, Excel files (supported formats: .xlsx and .xls) can be used as data sources, enabling seamless data ingestion for advanced analytics. This guide provides a detailed step-by-step approach to integrating Excel files into Edilitics, ensuring secure file management and workflow optimization.
Before You Begin
Ensure the following prerequisites are met:
- File Size Limit: Excel files must not exceed 100 MB.
- Column Headers: Clearly define headers for accurate data interpretation.
- Delimiter Selection: Ensure consistency in delimiters used within the file, if applicable.
- Usage Constraints:
- Excel files are only supported as data sources, not destinations.
- Workflows using Excel files:
- Support full loads via "Schedule as Once" only.
- Support "Schedule as Once" in Transform.
- Do not support auto updates or data refreshes in Visualize.
File Security and Management
Edilitics implements robust security protocols for handling Excel files:
- Security Scans: All uploaded files undergo validation for potential risks and data accuracy.
- Encryption: Files are securely encrypted during storage and decrypted only when accessed or utilized in workflows (Transform, Visualize).
- Permanent Deletion: Upon deleting an integration, files are permanently removed from Edilitics systems to ensure data privacy compliance.
Steps to Integrate Excel Files
Step 1: Add the Excel Connector
-
Navigate to the Integrations module in Edilitics.
-
Click on New Integration.
-
Search for and select the Excel connector.
Step 2: Configure the Integration
Enter the following details on the setup screen:
| Field Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Integration Title | A unique identifier for your integration. |
| Integration Description | A concise summary of the Excel data being integrated. |
| AI Driven Column Insights | Enable this feature to leverage AI for generating metadata-driven column descriptions automatically. If disabled, column descriptions can be manually curated to align with specific business requirements. Any user-modified descriptions are treated as authoritative and remain immutable. |
| File Upload | Upload the Excel file directly from your local storage (must be ≤ 100 MB). |
| Include Headers | Specify if headers are present (Yes or No). If Yes, provide the row number. |
| Delimiter | Ensure consistent delimiters (if applicable). |
If headers are not included or do not exist in the file, Edilitics
automatically assigns column headers as Column_1, Column_2, etc.
Step 3: Validate and Save
- Click Test & Save Connection to validate the uploaded file.
- Edilitics scans the file for schema compliance and security validation.
- Upon successful validation, the file is securely encrypted and saved for use in workflows.
