Charts

How AskEdi generates charts automatically, the supported chart types, and how to export chart data as CSV, PNG, PDF, or PPT.

When a question calls for a comparison, distribution, or trend, AskEdi selects a chart type and generates the response automatically. You do not configure the chart. Every chart response includes the underlying data in a table view and export options for CSV, PNG, PDF, and PPT.

When You Get a Chart Response

AskEdi produces a chart response rather than a narrative when a visual representation communicates the result more clearly than text. Questions that typically produce charts:

  • "Show me revenue by region for the last 6 months" produces a bar or line chart comparing values across a dimension and time period.
  • "What is the breakdown of order status across product categories?" produces a stacked bar or pie chart showing proportional composition.
  • "How are customers distributed by purchase frequency?" produces a histogram or scatter chart showing a distribution.
  • "Compare conversion rates across campaign types" produces a clustered bar chart comparing two dimensions.

Questions that ask why something is happening, what is driving a trend, or what to do next typically produce Decision Intelligence or narrative responses instead.

You can request a specific chart type in your question. For example: "show this as a horizontal bar chart" or "plot signups over time as a line chart". If the chart type you request does not suit the data, AskEdi explains why and suggests an alternative.

What a Chart Response Includes

Each chart response includes:

  • The chart with interactive tooltips on hover
  • A brief description of what the chart shows and the key insight
  • A follow-up suggestion for a related analysis

When a single question produces multiple charts (for example a revenue trend and a category breakdown in the same response), each chart has its own query. Use the pagination controls in the Analysis view to inspect the query behind each one.

Supported Chart Types

AskEdi selects from the following chart types. You can also request a specific type in your question.

  • Basic bar, horizontal bar - Clustered bar, horizontal clustered bar - Stacked bar, horizontal stacked bar - Mixed line and bar
  • Basic line, stacked line - Basic area, stacked area
  • Basic pie, doughnut, half-doughnut, nightingale - Radial polar bar, gauge
  • Dynamic text table - Dynamic highlighted table - KPI card
  • Scatter, bubble - Histogram, boxplot, heatmap, radar
- Funnel, sankey, treemap, tree
- Word cloud, map, scatter map

Data View

The Data View shows the tabular query result behind a chart. Click the table icon in the action bar on any chart response to open it. This lets you read the exact values the chart is plotting without leaving the conversation.

Data View is not available when the response contains a single dynamic text table or a single dynamic highlighted table. Those chart types are already tabular, so a separate Data View would be redundant.

Export Options

The download menu on a chart response gives you four options. What is available depends on whether you are the chat owner or a shared viewer.

ExportWho can use itWhat it produces
CSVOwner onlyThe underlying query result as a CSV file
ImageOwner onlyThe chart as a PNG file
PDFOwner and shared viewersThe full conversation as a PDF
PPTOwner and shared viewersThe full conversation as a PowerPoint file

CSV and Image export apply to the specific chart in the current response. PDF and PPT export the entire conversation from the first message to the current one.
